The Greenfield Method: Creative Sound Play (CSP)
The Greenfield Method is applied in class using Creative Sound Play (CSP). Everything teachers need to use it effectively in their classroom is available on its website. It was developed for over two decades by Hayes Greenfield, who has also been actively teaching it among an ever growing community of schools and teachers. CSP has been hailed by world-renown experts for its novelty and effectiveness in establishing a uniquely broad set of foundational cognitive life-skills [Casey, Adele]. For each child, CSP optimizes their personal potential and their ability to collaborate effectively with others.
Two things set CSP apart from any other approach. First, it is taught in the classroom through the use of sound rather than language. Second, it focuses holistically on both the Individual and Togetherness.
Sound provides many unique advantages. Most important, it enables CSP to be taught at a very early age, while the mind itself is focused on establishing these very foundations. Moreover, through sound one can holistically address a much broader set of skills, and do so in a way that is much harder, if not impossible, to accomplish through language. Addressing such skills through language can only be done at a much later age, after, for good or bad, the mind has already set these foundations.
Sound is also universal, meaning it can be used as is by any culture speaking any language. As it requires no special technology or equipment, it requires no budget. Children immediately find it fun and engaging, so classroom transitions into CSP activities are always welcome. Social interactions occur naturally and in a way in a way that allows each individual to express their unique self while also accepting others as they collaborate together. In CSP a child cannot make a "mistake". Rather, such occurrences get blended into the overall sound environment. CSP ensures this is done in a way that teaches both Individuals and the entire class (Togetherness) learn how to deal with the unexpected and, together, not only come up with creative solutions, but do so in real-time and without disrupting the ongoing flow of sound.
